Opportunity Information: Apply for O BJS 2025 172532
The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is launching a new data collection effort as part of its ongoing Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA). Through this 36-month program, BJS aims to gather updated national statistics on law enforcement training academies, including details about their recruits, instructional content, staff, and resources. The project includes developing survey tools, updating the list of training academies, conducting the census in 2027, and preparing the final datasets for use. Training academies covered by CLETA are responsible for providing mandatory basic training to new law enforcement officers and are run by a mix of state, local, and academic institutions. The most recent CLETA in 2018 recorded 681 academies training nearly 59,500 recruits annually. This upcoming effort continues a long-term data series that began in 2002.
